Conservative Senator Oliver receives

 ‘Black Business Initiative Award’

Nova Scotia Senator Donald Oliver, pictured below, received the Black Business Initiative’s board of directors award of business excellence on June 19. Sen. Oliver, who was a lawyer, professor and businessman before being appointed to the Senate in 1990, owns a real estate investment company and a Christmas tree farm. “Senator Oliver couldn’t be more deserving of this recognition,” BBI chair Cassandra Dorrington said in a press release last week. “He is a tireless advocate for human rights and equality for African Canadians, reflected in his community and public speaking engagements and his overall commitment to the prosperity of all Canadians, in particular the black business sector.” Sen. Oliver said he was “deeply honoured” by the award, which “means a great deal” to him.
